Here is what our fifth grade students are learning in art this semester. |
Our fifth grade students will learn about the Elements of Art-Line, Shape, Form,Texture, Color, Contrast, and Space.

Here are some fifth grade activities to try at home. |
1. Students will create a picture using zentangle designs, Draw a picture of something or do the first initial of your name. Divide it into pieces and then fill in with zentangle designs. Make sure to color in some of those designs using a black, white pattern.
2. Students will create a picture a 1 dimenstional picture of a road using depth, Add details and color. 3. Students will create a still life picture using the different 3D forms on a table. Make sure to show light and shading. Add color. 4.Students will create a monochromatic art piece using colored pencil, crayon or paint. 5. Focus on the art of Andy Warhol. Notice the bright colors in his artwork. Notice the bright colors in his artwork and how he repeats images. Fold a piece of paper into 4 sections. Picture your favorite food or favorite cartoon character. Draw this same picture in each box. Color one box black and white, one with primary colors only, one with secondary colors only, and one using a complementary color pair. 6. Lightly trace the side of your shoe with a pencil on a piece of paper. Use the outline to design your own shoe. You can change the shape of your shoe for your design such as adding wings or wheels. Add color. 7. Gather 5 objects and place on a table. Place 3 in the back row and the last 2 in front of these. Using a pencil and piece of paper draw what you see. Include a table line. Choose a light source shining on your objects. Using the pencil add value to the objects. Focus on the shadows being created from the objects. Add color. 8. Imagine you are the owner and head chef of a new fancy reataurant, Draw and color a food entree with sides and a drink. Include the decorative dishes, cups, and tableware. Add color. 9. Choose an artist we have previously learned about (Picasso, Seurat, Grant Wood, Warhol, Monet, Haring, Kahlo, Lichtenstein, Mondrian, Rousseau, etc.) Or look at the famous artitsts on the website and choose one. Now draw a self portrait using that artists stylye or art work, Add color. 10. Check out the website Google Art Project on the art resources page of this website. Spend 30 minutes exploring this website. Find the little yellow guy symbol on these pages. Click on it and it will take you into different art museums throughout the world. You can visit art museums anywhere in the world. Explore the inside of at least 3 different art museums throughout the world. Tell someone in your house what you saw. |
